Ray Evans now lives in Virginia, USA., with his wife Lilian. They are looking forward to celebrating their 50th
Wedding Anniversary in 2006.
Ray’s life took him to many places he never dared to dream as a child that he would see. He served most of his
National Service time in the British Army in Egypt. After his return from that he married Lilian in 1956. They had
two children, a son and later a daughter. Within a few years he started his own business and ran it very successfully
with Lilian’s help and support for 30 years.
As Lilian & Ray approached retirement they moved to the USA to be closer to their daughter and grand daughter. That is
when Ray was persuaded to start writing down the stories he had told his children, and now his grand children. His initial
intent was simply to record the stories so that they could continue to be shared among his family. Ray enlisted the help
of his brothers and sisters to recall some of the events and the book took on a life of it’s own.
We hope you enjoy it and perhaps share the stories with your family and friends.

The story of one young boy from Liverpool whose family was sent to the Welsh town of
Llanelli for the duration of World War II. Separated from his mother and brothers and sisters, six year-old
Raymond Evans is shunted from pillar to post. At first he has a miserable time, unwanted and largely unloved,
and it appears that his war will be spent without any family—real or surrogate.
